Follow-on milk! Obviously invented by scientists who know nothing about raising children. And have you seen the TV ads? So misleading

I know- this is a bug bear of mine. More revenue raising for formula companies, as if their profit margins are not ridiculously high anyway. How on earth did we all grow and develop healthily without it!!

OP- As others say give plenty of dairy products in its place and she will be fine. Also remember green leafy veg, almonds, sesame seeds, tahini and lots of other foods contain lot's of calcium too. My DD doesn't have any dairy but get's all her calcium from other food sources. Just a thought but does your LO like porridge? If you make this with milk it is very creamy and you can also hide lots of goodies in it. My DD has a bowl every morning with a mashed banana, a handful of raisins, some chopped blueberries/ blackberries/ grapes, a spoonful of tahini and some flax oil in! She loves it!

My ds2 is 2 and 7 months and still has a bottle - we currently own 12 sippy cups from various shops and despite constant cajoling he refuses to drink out of a cup.

Obviously he has not read the info that he should no longer be drinking out of one.

It is very easy to say children should drop bottles at 12 months if you have a child that easily follows those guidelines. If you have a child who refuses to drink out of cups what do you do ?

Don't sweat the small stuff !

My kids all dropped drinking milk at around 12 months and we just made sure we included foods with milk in them - yoghurts, custard, rice pudding - even pancakes which have a fair bit of milk in them.
It's not paranoia if they really are after you.

does your daughter still want milk during the night?

    Hiya,

Thank you for your post. No my wee one doesn't have milk during the night, to get her back to sleep we used controlled crying which only took a night or 2 and I thought it was worth doing as she's hardly ever up during the night now but when she is, she just talks away to herself for a wee while before going back to sleep!

    i have the opposite problem!!
im 7 months pregnant, and DD is 18 months. when we found out i was pregnant, we thought about weaning DD off her bottle (which she took in the mornin and before bed also) and she drunk her milk no problem this way. so when she fell ill and didnt want anything to eat/drink, we thought it was a perfect time to stop her bottle, which we did and she doesnt miss it. drinks out of any cup fine -- altho i cant seem to get her to drink anymore than about 100-200 mls of milk with her breakfast, and it is almost impossible to get her to drink any before bed.
she loves cheese and yoghurts and has these everyday....but im concerned if she is actually getting enough!??
i never liked milk from primary school, when we were forced to drink those warm bottles of the stuff for break.(eugh, thinking about it now turns my stomach) and i will now only take a small amount in tea - and very very rarely in a bowl of cereal. so i worry i am teaching her from m bad habit!??

Our DD would have had milk for all her fuel requirements some days, so we stopped giving her so much milk, but made sure she had plenty of other sources of calcium - cheese, cheese spread, youghurt etc, and found her 'not hungry' days dwindled and she was soon eating well - we gave her water at mealtimes, not juice, as she was quite happy with plain water instead of juice that was full of sugar or additives.

    Hiya Carlamagee

I'm not sure what to suggest as mine won't eat anything...not even a strawberry which is why I'm worried about cutting down her milk in an attempt to make her eat but if she doesn't eat then it's pointless!

My friends baby sounds like yours though, her DD hated milk after she started to get weaned but her wee girl isn't a fussy eater and is built like a male body-builder! It sounds to me though that you're doing fine if she's eating plenty of dairy foods!

Don't worry - what you eat has nothing to do with what your kids eat. My mom and sister drink cow milk but I don't. My sister and I eat cheese but our mom doesn't. And so on...
