The big hype about huge increase in sales at Aldi and Lidl is quiet easy explained, the 3 months from January to March inclusive saw a 25% increase for Aldi .. well there market share is so small that a 25% jump looks huge ( and is to be fair ) but may mean there 1.4% market share increased to almost 1.75% now if tesco had a 25% jump in market share that would take them from 34% to almost 43% !
In a market worth £140 billion thats big numbers !

I went to Lidl last week and all but one thing on my list was cheaper than Asda or Tesco. I couldn't believe how much their prices had gone up.

You can probably get cheaper products in tesco, but the quality will be pants compared to that of lidls.

I also think Lidl is disappointing these days, i get more for my money buying the own brand Tesco stuff.

I think Lidl and Aldi are still good value for lots of things particularly fruit juices, tinned tomatos and the olive oil/balsamic viniger. I also find Aldi's cold meat to be better quality than asda/tesco/morrisons

I agree, some things are definetely more pricey then the larger supermarket chains.

I am super close to one, I've not braved alot of the things yet as there are some things that do not look great quality and i'm not sure about the littluns eating it

But have found the deli items, fruit and veg etc are fine, plus tinned bsics, just all the prepared stuff seems rather low quality if you look at the ingredients percentages, but I may be being a bit too fussy lol

However my dd1 LOVES their uht juices. They are generally 505 fruit and he has it diluted. They always seem to have one on offer cheap

I tend to pop in one a week and just look for the crazy offers that I know will be ok bought in bulk, pick up next weeks leaflet etc, these offers supposedly start on the 1st, although had some yesterday when I passed for milk like:

50p 1.5l solevita orange nectar fruit juice
    63p robinsons fruit and barley
    £1.53 160 typhoo
24p no added sugar orange squash
    49p 4 muffins
    59p 3 micro popcorn
    £1.15 goodfellas delicia pizza
    £1.19 chrysanthemums
    50p twin pack maryland cookies

Yesterday they had (finish on 1st?):
    3 peppers 79p
    2 little gem 39p
    mangoes 39p
    1kg white onions 34p
    200g radishes 28p
any 2 coleslaw type mixes 69p
    quiches £1
bassets jelly babies/maynards fruit gums 64p
tinned sweets(like they sell in garages) 50p
1.5l ocean spray cranberry juice £1

So I think that their special offers, especially the weekly fruit juice ones are great, just never buy gold blend in there like I did last week ... how much!!! Would not have minded if I could have got more than a dozen cups out of the silly sized jar!
