I think you have to be careful what you buy, I think a lot of the well known branded stuff they sell is at RRP whereas most of the other big supermarkets tend to sell this stuff on offer (I'm thinking Lenor, Nescafe, as an example), you can pick up some bargains in there, fruit and veg tends to be very cheap

I do find the prices have gone up on stuff and there isnt a great difference but with the deals they do i have been getting fresh meat at a lot lower prices than others shops. When this offer runs out they will be back to 20p a packet cheaper or there about.

I also find there veg doesnt last very long which is a pain as i dont have a car and can only do a shop once a week.

I think both LIDL and ALDI prices have gone up tremendously, so avoid them both except for the fruit and veg offers.IMO morrisons and farmfoods are cheaper:D

  • Got to agree on the veg, too be honest i thought it was poor, rotten potatos in plastic bags on display.

But to pick up on milliemonster i do remember a few months back there being some cracking deals on fruit and veg, mostly half price.
    ;)Thanks;)
  • I'm with you on this one! Both Lidl and Aldi used to be cheap and very good value but since they have been promoted heavily as such during the credit crunch, their prices have sneakily increased.

partially to blame for the price increases of late is the rate of the £ against the euro as both Lidl and Aldi are european-based.

Hadn't thought about that fair point.

The day i was in there (WED) was very few customers and one person on till and seemed to be stacking shelves aswell, not busy like used to be.

Compared to Somerfield, it is cheap!

I use Lidl quite a bit as its near to me, but use it in conjunction with Somerfield and Asda.

    I love Lidl for fruit

I don't have anything to compare it with as the other supermarket nearest to me (Tesco) is quite a long walk or a bus-ride away, but I do think the fresh fruit & veg is very reasonable even if the choice is a bit limited sometimes.

At the moment they have a couple of cracking deals like two 1litre cartons of cranberry juice for £1, 500 grammes of dried pasta (fusilli/twists) for 50 pence and the muesli that I regularly buy reduced from £1.59 to £1, also some really good cheddar cheese at £2.99 which sells I saw in the Tesco Metro near my work for £4. I went into Lidl every night after work this week and stocked up. I now have enough of the first three items to last me about six months.

Prices have climed up in the last 2 years in my opinion. All i do is be more selective in my buying going for the offers.

I have heard the £ dropping against the Euro being one readson (as lidl buys its products from supplyers on the continent). So if things continue with the pound getting slightly stronger against the euro over the last few weeks, lets see if they reduce prices.
To be fair im sure at one point the cheap cans of lager "Grafenwalder Pils" went up to 79p (from 75p) and its now at 73p (current special ending after sunday 2 500ml cans for £1 and as a drink it beats foster/carling and other crappy lagers but not as good as the more exspencive ones. But at £1 per litre its great).
