Thank you for allowing me this opportunity.

It is actually a policy of Tesco to accept other supermarkets' coupons. This is relevant to the newspaper thread this week as the morrisons coupons in the sun each day this week (intended for use at morrisons stores) are in fact being welcomed at Tescos.

sorry, still here. I didn't mean spend and save coupons, I meant coupons from a supermarket for money off one of their items, but then I expect you knew that?

A small word of warning - in my paper, the coupon expiry date is 29/5 NOT 31/5 !!! I bought an extra couple of papers this morning without having the sense to check my first copy - I won't be able to use them as my next visit to a Waitrose will be on 30/5 (its MILES away from my home and I only get to it on rare occasions).

And I certainly WILL NOT be trying to use this in Tesco - most of us are well aware that Tesco staff should not be taking these and, especially bearing in mind the hassle I'm having with my local store, I am not going to do anything to risk the coupon friendly policy in other nearby stores.

There are one or two people around who think they know better but its a waste of effort trying to discuss it with them as they are clearly going to carry on regardless until they get caught out.

the only store specific coupons for over supermarkets which tesco may accept is spend £30 save £5 style coupons for major shops like morrions and sainsburys.

The coupon we are discussing (the gq one) isn't store specific as such. It says take it to independent retailers.

This started off when a poster asked if it scans at Tesco.

It does, and they sell the mag.

Surely as there will be loads of them going through the tills would you not have thought they could quite easily block the coupon.
I know previous Mail coupons have been blocked in the past.
Must agree though you would expect Tesco to be added as a retailer, but as they accept other retailers coupons such as Morrisons maybe if they can`t get reimbursed it won`t affect their BILLIONS !!! in profit too much.

Hi! Unfortunately as has been stated before, the tills are automatically set up to accept new barcodes starting with a 99...,of which thousands come out all the time.

It is only after non-compliant coupons have been accepted at the till (by a badly trained sales assistant) that the "powers that be" put a stop to individual coupons to stop their "abuse".

If every coupon was scrutinised before being allowed on the system, there would probably be far fewer coupons set up and able to be used before the expiry date.

The only coupons, from other supermarkets, that Tesco accepts are the conditional spend type....as long as all the conditions on the coupon are adhered to (eg £5 of £30 spend...not allowed on e-top ups etc)They do this as a loss-leader as part of a longer term marketing strategy to retain customers, and to stop customers from going to the opposition.
They will not accept a coupon for say 50p off a tin of beans at Morrisons.

The loss may seem insignificant, at first glance, to the annual profit, but I know that all my local Tescos are being tasked with cutting working hours, as a cost saving measure.

I think we can all work out what will happen to the in-store coupon policy at your local, if the manager believes that his bonus is at stake, because he is getting an influx of coupons, which are worthless to his company, and which are affecting bottom line profit!

For clarity to answer the original question:
The coupon will scan through the Tesco till system,
    however,
Tesco is not an independent store, and cannot redeem the coupons.
Anecdotal evidence, shows that Tesco stores that lose money through coupons, put blanket bans on coupon acceptance.
It's nice to be nice .....
You HAVE checked google before asking, haven't you?;)
If you use the "search this thread" button at the top of the page, you may find it's been answered already!;)
