What reason would explain a payment with a credit card won't appear on the statement?

Is there any reason which might explain why a payment made with a credit card does not appear on its statement after several weeks, now at least a month?
Is there any regulation as to how long a payment can appear on the credit card statement before that it becomes unpayable, like a cheque?
Thank you.

Interesting. Could you refer to a published source with this information?
The payment was made over the counter, with chip and pin, as required nowadays.0
