Day trip to London Zoo

Hello,

I want to go down to London Zoo for my 3 year old's 1st visit to a zoo.

Has anyone got any ideas how to make this as painless on the pocket as possible?

I live in Kettering, Northants. It will be me, the wife and Katie (the 3 year old).

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Duncan

My colleague went at the weekend and thought it was half-empty (he's a regular visitor). It's not a cheap trip from Kettering and not ideal for public transport (tube to Camden then bus).
In your position I'd go to Whipsnade instead; costs about the same to get in but much easier to get to (close to M1 J9) or even have a spin round Woburn. I'd also leave it until after Easter when there will be more to see everywhere.
Take a picnic and have a lovely day wherever you go!
    Can I help?

    Hi,

I was thinking about that, actually. But, I seem to remember going there a few years ago (before kids) and it being a big place that takes a lot of walking around. I wonder if my 3 year old would be up for a massive amount of traipsing about.

Maybe, Twycross... although I seem to remember that that doesn't have much of a selection of animals.

    Decisions, decisions....

If you collect tesco vouchers you can use them and get in for free...We got the tube to regents park I think and then walked through the park..we didn't catch any buses...Take a packed lunch too and enjoy....We travelled down from doncaster and I will be taking my 3 year old and 11 year old again this summer...We also went for my sons birthday and then went to the Rainforest cafe to top it off....Have a good time..

    Hi,

Tesco's vouchers? What do you mean, sorry?

Is this anything to do with club points?

If you were to travel down by train then you could take advantage of this:

We took advantage of this last year and they didn't even ask for our tickets - we just gave them the printed voucher and they were quite happy with that.

Hi.Have you considered Whipsnade Zoo which is part of the same group but has more space. Would highly recommend. You can still use the Tesco vouchers.

    I HATED London zoo!!

When we went the poor tiger was constantly pacing up and down the same five steps - looked deranged, he did this ALL the time we were there. The whole place was small, dirty and old. Loads of emply cages and those that were occupied were way too small - a lot of animals seemed distressed.

When we went there was hardly any visitors - not surprised as it cost us £40 for the two of us.

The sooner it closes the better.

Another way of visiting is to combine with a canal boat trip from either Camden Lock or Little Venice - unfortunately you cannot use Tesco clubcard vouchers and it does cost a little extra but is a lovely add on (parking on Sundays is relatively easy ariound Little Venice and should be free)
