Ebay Forces Sellers to Use PayPal

Apologies if this has already been covered.
Ebay now owns PayPal, and surprise, surprise now all sellers must offer paypal as a method of payment - end of story - you have to enter a valid PP email address and it must be a verified or 'premium/business' account, not just a basic one!
I have many misgivings about Paypal to begin with. Once they froze my account with £600 in and they refused to release the funds, long story, but eventually I got my money back.
I wanted to sell a sofa on ebay, but now I can't because of this, I refuse to use PP ever again. They have my name, bank info, email address and even if I tried to set up a new account, all my info would flag up to PP that it was a duplicate account. ..........for me I will not be selling on ebay anymore
Apparently this has caused a bit of controversy in Australia and the US too. Surely this is anti-competitive, especially as Ebay own PP and will reap the benefits as a result.
Add this issue to the already increased fees.....is it even worth bothering with?

agreed, this is old news but i agree with one thing that the op say's, it certainly seems like ebay are flaunting competition laws by forcing a company upon people that they have a financial interest in, in a supposed open market place.
However i'm not an expert in competition law and i would imagine even if they are breaking those laws it would be hard to prove, so i'm not surprised they haven't been challenged over it.
What does surprise me though is that large payment processing companies like worldpay and banks for example allow ebay to publicise to 15million users in the uk alone that their services are unsafe or unprotected as if you place any of the few alternatives to paypal on your listing that ebay allow, ebay will make a point of placing the compulsory paypal link above them with "protected" beside it while either stating directly or implying heavily that all other methods are unprotected.
I'm sure if i took out an advert in the national press even vaguely implying that these companies offered services that were "unsafe" they would come down on me like a ton of bricks.0 -
Ebay need to know when a buyer has paid otherwise there would be no end of disputes. The best way to do this is own the payment company. Its not ideal but makes buying & selling much easier. Other less successful auction sites also have their own payment systems.0
