Toothsmith I love the quote in your sig. Dentistry is doing what it is doing and NHS direct is on the rocks due to costs!

    Yes
He did it to loads of people, kids, everyone.
Put tempory fillings on top of rot and alsorts, he turned out to be an alcoholic and was going to be prosecuted but he commited suicide first.

I got £2000 compensation and had this running bridge done privately but it is coming to the end of its life now,

A very sad case all round!

There are very few circumstance where this sort of thing is done on the NHS, generally at teaching hospitals.

Are you reasonably close to a dental teaching hospital? Your dentist could try refering you there. If anybody stands a chance of having this done, you do. Get him to explain the full circumstances.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

What a terribly sad story :(

So sorry to hear of all the things that you've had to put up. I had dental implants in the last few years for 2 of my top teeth and crowns on a few more. It put me into further debt but that's the one thing I don't regret about my total debt. I can smile confidently and I love them :D

I know I am biased so please go with what feels right for you.

Best of luck, you deserve it.

I'm going down to my dentist (75 miles away) but I trust him, for a review and to decide the best thing to do I'll have to see a specialist at the Bupa hospital in Cardiff to get a definite quote for the work after I've seen my dentist.

I will ask him if he'll try and refer me on the NHS, you never know do you!
After the dentist commited suicide I was referred to Leeds where I lived at the time, they said implants or false teeth, but this dentist in Wales that I see now was the only person to suggest this running bridge for me which has lasted 4 years,
I trust him completely and he doesn't hurt either, thats why I daren't go abroad to have it done, I know it's cheaper.

Blimey, I'm waffling on a bit, avoiding false teeth is my obsession and my family are fed up with hearing about it LOL

Cardiff has a dental hospital too. There are also dental teaching hospitals at Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester (Probably the greatest one in all the world :p )

look 'toothy' whats the big deal ? Gonna get old anyway and the rest of you will gradually rot so why bother with implants ? Its guilding the lilly (lol)
Ive lost a few teeth the last few years thru gradual gum decay even though ive kept up my dental appointments religiously every 6 months for the past 30 years.
You can get the next best thing to titanium implants with dentures/partial dentures on a chromium/cobalt plate much cheaper and speak OK without a lisp.

Going to the dentist every 6 months doesn't in itself stop your teeth from deteriorating! You have to do the stuff they advise as well!

Some people suit dentures some don't.

They can be very good, they can be awful. How they are actually made is only partly the reason. I've seen some patients perfectly happy with ancient dentures that were made 30+ years ago, and don't fit or bite together anymore.

I've had patients unhappy with superbly made dentures as they just don't get on with them.

It's not for one person to impose the cheapest possible treatment on everybody. That's what the Government is trying to do at the moment!!!!

I had to have a partial denture for a few months before I could have a bridge and it drove me mad, I found the whole idea revolting,
I work with the elderly and I can't even watch them putting theirs in with out heaving!, Horrible

I'm already working extra hours to clear debt and I've decided to try a Grave Maintenance service in my area, theres no body doing it around here and I like to be out doors and keeping things nice, so any money from that can go towards implants.

Hey Toothsmith, do you do implants are people generally happy with them, I've appreciated your advice

I don't do them, but I refer people to a very good guy locally.

Those that have had them are very happy.
