Help!!

I've got about £15,000 of debt and have visited this site enough to have got a kick up the backside.
I'm so impressed with the help and support everyone offers, so here goes, I need advice.

I've started to increase my payments to credit cards and they are all interest free at the moment or life of balance cheap rate, so I've got that far.

I've stopped spending on anything not essential and any extra penny goes towards a debt.

My real big problem (and don't laugh) is that I have a morbid fear of false teeth, I work as a carer so I see a lot of them! and my biggest fear is having to have them myself.

My teeth are at the point where in the next few months I will have to have false teeth (at the top) or implants.
The implants will be between £5,000 and £7,000
I can get them done on interest free finance

CAN I JUSTUFY THE EXPENSE!

Is there a dentist out there who would exchange dentistry for granny sitting LOL

Any advice or thoughts, all very welcome

Can you justify the expense? No. Not at the moment.

You already have 15k of debt and you want to add another 5k to that? Are you mad?

Get the false teeth - they are very good these days and no-one will be able to tell. My dad has had them for years after a motorbike accident knocked his front ones out and you wouldn't know - they just look like nice teeth.

how much would false teeth set you back?

Personally, although I would prefer implants if I were in your position, I wouldn't add to my debt by getting them!

I guess its down to vanity vs financial sense at the end of the day

Is there no chance that you could get false teeth to begin with, and then implants later, once you've cleared your debt, and saved up for them?

I must admit, I tend to put "going to the dentist" in the category of "some time in the far off distant future when I can afford to pay the very high charges for private dental work....." Mind you, I don't like going to the dentist anyway, so any excuse to put it off works for me....

Having said that, I rush to make an appointment when I have to - if a tooth breaks or a filling falls out - i.e. anything that might be painful.

I suspect false teeth might be pretty expensive anyway, so not sure how much you would be saving by not going for implants? If you hate the idea of false teeth so much I personally would go for the implants - but that is probably why I am always broke!

Have you asked the dentist about a compromise option?

£5-7000 is not the price of a full upper jaw of implants, so I assume that you have a fair few good teeth up there?

Could an adhesive bridge put you on for a few years. This would cost a few hundred as opposed to a few thousand.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I already have a running bridge which is supported by the minimum amount of teeth possible and it's that which is loose.

I was unfortunate enough to have a dentist who gave me intavenous valium for years and never did any work while I was sedated, as a result a few of my teeth were unsavable.
Thats why I'm in this mess now.
    All available options are finished!!

Are you saying your dentist used to zonk you out, wake you up and give you bills for work not actually done? They can get struck off for that you know.

You didn't used to wake up with your clothes dishevelled did you?

You would have a good case against your previous dentist if that happened.

Has it been more than 6 years since this came to light? You have 6 years from finding out something bad has happened to starting action.

It would solve the financial side of the treatment, and possibly a bit of your debt problem as well.
