Yes. I didn't say it made any sense!scotsman4th wrote: »So I could place a 3.5 ton rated trailer into a 1.5 ton rated trailer and then tow it with my 1.8 ton rated car?
True. You are (I think) very unlikely to ever get pulled for towing an empty trailer regardless of the law, unless you are unlucky enough to be stopped in one of the publicity campaigns (aka clampdown) or get stopped by a VOSA checkpoint.scotsman4th wrote: »I think I'd take a chance (towing the empty 3.5 ton trailer) due to the amount of Hobby caravans being towed by discoveries, rangerovers, other 4 by 4's and transits. The police dont know any better.
Can't be many caravans that exceed the 3.5Ton towing limit of a Range Rover or Discovery!0 -

Good question. I hadn't thought about trailer insurance until now tbh.Herman - MP for all!

If you are considering towing may I suggest that you seek advice as most people who have never towed before are unaware of the potential hazzards and the changes it has on the way your vehicle behaves.
The following link is one of many available from trailer suppliers that try to make customers aware of their responsibilities and good practice.

Most Caravan Suppliers can offer access to training to new customers if you ask.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

Good to hear! You can not beat forces training!!
Just remind him that he doesn't have to switch off his lights and drive through a forest under fire!!!:rotfl:Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

I always liked the big hobbys used by travellers and even went to the extent of buying an old rangerover to tow one. Trouble is even although they can legally tow the weight, they cant tow the width.0
