short, pear-shaped, size 18 CLOTHES

I used to be a 12/14 and my shape and size have changed over the years and now I am what you would call, a comfortable-looking, silver haired, almost 60 year old woman. I am smiley, friendly and cuddly. I know people don`t look at me and say anything nasty about my overweight figure BUT I don`t know how and where to get nice clothes to fit me.

My waist is still there so any skirt or trouser without elastic in the waistband, just gapes at the waist. I do not like communal changing rooms for obvious reasons

I am really, really struggling to get some decent clothes into my wardrobe. I can get hold of Blast clothes but I want something smarter than that. Smart casual, rather than over smart wedding type clothes. I love wearing trousers and longer skirts as I have always had chunky legs. I have the usual baby tum and too many body layers

Any help is gratefully received re shops etc

How about signing up for the next directory?? You set up an account with them, and they send you out their catalogue (which is enormous). You can then look through and order either over the phone or on line. You can check out their clothing range online without commiting yourself to anything at all at www.next.co.uk

My mum loves their clothes (she's 53 and not into dressing too young, but likes to be quite trendy), they're very good quality, reasonably priced, and the beauty is they deliver to your home and if you dont like them you send them back. Easy peasy.
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle

You aren't my mum are you ;) LOL
She is short, about 5 foot, and is about an 18.
I got her a lovely wrap around cardi from primark, its good bcos you can wear a layer underneath. She nearly always wears trousers and finds M&S to be the best for her, but she will shop around for tops. I will ask her next time I talk to her. I think she gets the odd thing from Matalan too. She tends to stick with dark bottoms, i.e. black trousers, or navy, and wears quite colourful tops often with a scarf, one of those thin ones.
Theres a sale in Dorothy Perkins at the moment, don't be put off by the young image, a lot of the tops they have are under a tenner and would fit into the smart casual category. Also have you tried la Redoute catalogue as they have a wide range of styles and a good choice in sizings too - one of the few places i can get my size 8, 33" leg trousers LOL and their small prices range is good value too.

    Hiya :)

The shopping fiends on the I Wanna board should be able to help you out here and so I'll move this post across for you.

    Good luck :)
