I think it's Vieira.
Petit was signed in June 97, Vieira was in Sept 96.Overmars was summer 97 and Anelka was Feb 97.
Not possitive though
Taken from Wiki "Even before he formally took control of the team, Wenger had started to shape the Arsenal squad, having requested that the club sign French midfielders Patrick Vieira."Think it's about time the comping fairy remembered where I am! lol0 -
DS says this is a tricky one - aparently he requested that Patrick Viera was signed before he actually took over as manager, but the next one of that list to be signed was Niklas Anelka, who signed in 1997 - and he doesnt know if there were any others inbetween!!0

Out of the 4 answers the order in which they signed were, Vieira, Anelka, Petit then Overmars.
Will have to think about this as I agree with your DS.

Just asked DS (Arsenal Fan too) he said Vieira but as Wenger wasn't officially manager then it would be Anelka.
