I purchased a "Clickfree 360GB Portable Back Up Unit From QVCUK Shopping
Channel its very good for backing up everything EXCEPT Windows Vista & XP operating Systems it WILL NOT back up Programs you have downloaded and paid for from the Internet Freeware Programs too.
Why bother making a Product like this?
Whats the best alternative?

Backing up programs is a bit of a pain as they are usually tightly intergrated with the OS, the OS itself has certain protection on files etc to prevent accicental damage / security issues.
Just keep the installing files and you'll be fine.
Besides people put far more value on data than the programs themselves, which is the stuff you really want to get back as you can always redownload software..
alternative is backing up the entire drive but you need a LOT of free space, a program like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image will do that for you0 -
I agree with RobTang
All you need to do is backup your documents and files.
If you loose your system you'll have to install the programs again anyway. So why waste time backing up things you'll have to install anyway.
That's the one thing I like about Linux, is that all you documents and Program configurations are held in your home folder. So if you back that up, everything you've changed is saved, all you need to do is install the OS and programs again and you're back to where you were as soon as you restore your home folder.Laters
