    When these situations occur, who pays the postage costs each way?

    I had a buyer buy a US/NTSC playstation to game from me. In red letters on the auction "This game will not work in a standard UK playstaition 2/3 console"

    I get the message the game doesn't work. I will say I pointed this out and they admitted it was there fault etc. I accepted a return as they where nice about it etc and got the fees back.

    As mentioned just accept the a return and and refund.

    Going by ebay rules, it is up to the buyer to pay the return postage, much in the same way you'd have to get your own way back to a retail store - petrol, parking etc.

    Many sellers will refund the return postage as well as the full price paid if it is the sellers fault that the item is coming back - such as faulty or not as described.

    A buyer simply changing their mind (which they are entitled to do under the Distance Selling Regulations) is unlikely to get a refund of return postage, and in some cases is luckly to get the outbound postage refunded.

    I don't think the distance selling regulations apply to Ebay sales (non-business)

    I'm not sure my self, but there are a load of bar-room lawyers on the "caravan thread" that seem to think it does.

    I do know it does not apply on business to business sales, nor does it apply to auction format.

    Private sellers using Buy It Now, I'm not so sure though.

    I would ask them to go through paypal if the item is as you described it, if there is damage/wear ask them to take a photo and e-mail it to you (sometimes this is enough to shut them up). I sold a bundle of clothes on e-bay (most new) the buyer tried to tell me 'the items were unfit to wear' (even know they were new), in the end i told them to take it up with paypal, i won the case so did not have to refund her at all and she didn't leave me neg feedback either.

    I would rite her a e-mail saying;
    I am really sorry that you are not happy with your item, i believe i described the item well with a detailed photo, i'm really not sure why you are unhappy with your item. Please could you send me a photo of the damage/part you are unhappy with as i believe the item was in good condition.

    People like this really get to me and i don't think they should get away with it just because they have changed their mind and don't want the item.

    I refused to refund, as Buyer wanted refund due to not liking the item and not because there was anything wrong. He sent several rude emails saying, i was dishonest as the item would not make a good present for someone.

    He left negative, which i was expecting, but made a polite reply that item was exactly as described and as seen.

    I have since sold 3 more of the same item, all with + feedback

    How? There was absolutely nothing wrong with the item... The buyer bought it and then realised once he got it, he didnt like it. It wasnt faulty, or damaged and exactly as described...
