Just a quick query, I've not used them before but I would like to setup a site using double barrelled domain names eg:
hosting.infoprovider.co.uk
I think this would look better than
infoprovider.co.uk/hosting/
I can't find any info on this, anyone know anything or suggest somewhere to look?
Thanks

What you need is to set up a subdomain.
Firstly you need to purchase the parent domain, then in the control panel for the domain control you need to setup a subdomain. There may be an option, otherwise you should ask the support on how to do it with your particular interface.0 -
Sometimes your "double-barrell" domain is referred to as a subdomain or zone. You may get options in your control panel to edit your zone files or edit your DNS server.
Basically you need to create a new CNAME record that maps to your primary domain. You may have something like:
infoprovider.co.uk A 1.2.3.4
www. A 1.2.3.4
mail. CNAME www
ftp. CNAME www
Simply add your new one in:
hosting. CNAME www
Then you will need to restart your DNS server. Of course, you will need to configure your webserver to use the new subdomain. Assuming you're running Apache, edit your httpd.conf file and add something like:
<VirtualHost *>
ServerName hosting.infoprovider.co.uk
DocumentRoot /www/infoprovider/hosting
DirectoryIndex index.html
</VirtualHost>
That should be it, restart web server and you should be good to go
