Possible redundancy - complications/job offer

Hi all, hope you are well :o

Ok here goes... There are redundancies planned for our place of work in the next couple of weeks and there is a 50/50 chance it will be me (one of two sales admin staff).

I've had a look for other jobs incase it happens and have found one that is ideal for me (similar role to what I currently do) but it requires an immediate start (from Tuesday next week).

I am currently only working 4 days a week (down from 5 which means a 20% decrease in wages). I had already turned down a pay increase a couple of months back to try and help out the company.

The most complicated bit of all is that I currently rent from my boss (private tennant) and am slightly scared it could get messy if I do leave one way or the other. I have a good deal when it comes to rent and couldn't afford anywhere else.

Would it be sensible of me to leave my current job (wages reduced from £16,500 down to £13,200 at the moment) for this new one on £16,000?

If I did could things get messy with the flat and he kick me and the mrs out?
If it's not me made redundant should I still worry about my job?

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Cheers

I think on balance (unless your redundancy pacakage is likely to be large) you may want to take a chance and take the other job.

Have you considered having a meeting with your boss and offering yourself up for voluntary redundancy effective from Friday? That way you could get paid out from your current job, have a relaxing bank holiday and walk into your new role on Tuesday.

If in your view are you both able to do the current job to a decent standard (ie is your colleague roughly similar in ability to you) then your current boss will probably be very pleased he doesn't have to make a forced redundancy

what is this discount worth on salary?

    when does the tenancy end.

Subsidized housing may have tax implications.

I would have a quiet word with the boss and ask if you are on the list and get made redundant will it be ok to still rent the place.

He may not be keen on making you redundant if the rent is at risk.

you also have what pete111 suggested to work with.
