The number 01727894746 keeps ringing and when I answer all I hear is "beep"..."beep"... Is this an automated dialer or something?
How do I report this number to BT?

Sounds like the tones a fax machine makes while waiting for the 'warble' from the fax machine on the other end.
The number's probably somewhere near St. Albans, Hertfordshire.
http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/cgi-bin-Phones/nng?GNG=01727894746&Submit=SubmitTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for the help everyone.

Yeap! You have been a victim of the dreaded 'silent dialler' where a business calls 100 people but only has the capacity to answer say around 60. Good news is that Ofcom will soon start fining companies that don't leave a message stating when and why they called in the first place.0
