Nice place - I'll avoid getting the photos out
    just now, though...

Assume everything , to be double UK prices.

Not lots of places to eat - we actually bought pizza from supermarket & used their microwave to heat it!! Pennypinching moneysaver, here.

3 days was enough time, unless you REALLY are into exploring.

Our day trip sightseeing, in a minibus, was booked at the hotel, by us, when we got there. & this was more organised, than other guests, who had bought their trip, before going.

The driver was keen to show us around PROPERLY! We went off the tarmac roads, it's only on the lava, rough roads, that you get to see some sites, most people miss!!

He even took us a mile or so into nowhere, to a test bore hole, complete with HUGE pressure testing equipment, held in place by even BIGGER concrete weights. It's hard to describe, but you felt the ground shaking & the concrete vibrating, as you walked under the escaping steam & water. Don't think we should have, really, been there!!

You'll go so close to  to the waterfall, (imagine Niagra Falls - but 2' away!!) which is a main source of their clear streams, that our Health & Safety people, would go crazy!!

Then you'll be dropped off the bus, above this beautiful valley, to walk accross a tiny, few feet wide, crystal clear, pure, ice cold  stream. You MUST do this - it's where the world was seperated, as the techtronic plates moved apart, yeaaaaaaaaaaaars ago!! All there is there, is a small cemetary & church, to remind you of people!!

You'll go to see the Gullfoss Geysir, of course. That is HOT!!

Make sure you go down to the quayside at midnight. Theres a stainless teel, skeleton structure, of a viking boat. We took pictures, from either side, within moments of each other. Daytime in one shot, night time in the other!!

Visit the pwer station on your tour - free - & you'll see where they get their energy from!!

The strange object you see, like 3 huge water tanks, disguised on the Rekjavik skyline, are...3 water tanks - with a resteraunt on top. go & have a look, take pictures - free of course!!

    BEST OF ALL.....

The Blue Lagoon - a natural pool, of warm, hot, verrrrrrrry hot & WOWWWWW!! water, next a power station. You'll love it - even our non swimmer/water hating friend, went in & enjoyed every minute.

A warning though, don't mix THIS visit, in with the journey home, just 'cos it's on the way to the airport. Go in an evening, as a special trip, then you won't be rushing it!!

We didn't do 'whale watching' - lack of time, funds & no guarantees, the whales would come out to play - not now the Iclandic people have began murdering them again!!

Similarly the 4x4 driving (they drive - not you) day, on the ice flows, seemed bad value, so can't report on that one, either.

Assuming you fly Iceland Air - grab a few cans, extra, of Pepsi, when they bring the trolly round - it's free & real expensive, over there!!

I'll shut up now, but go & enjoy!!

You could ask Mum. (c) Robert Shilling 2004. ;)
  • Thanks for the info vansboy :P

I think I must be a bit thick didn't understand what markymarkd was on about ???
  • Does anyone know which tour operator does holidays to Iceland at this time of year? As far as I can tell the only flights from the UK to Iceland are Icelandair twice daily from Heathrow and Astraeus weekly from Stansted. Icelandair are a bit expensive for me, and Astraeus don't sell tickets direct but I can't seem to find a tour operator that offers these flights either. Anyone got any ideas?

Just a little joke! Robert Shilling specialises in unhelpful (but witty) answers so I thought I'd beat him to it.

"Mum's gone to Iceland" if you remember the Iceland (freezer shop) slogan.

I've just got back from a four day break in Iceland that was booked through Bridge Travel. I think they might have some special offers on two night breaks to Iceland at the moment. (checkout direct.bridge-travel.co.uk)
  • Thanks will check out when their website is up and running again, its down at the moment they are having some work done on it.
