Not as rosey as it was, but then again where is??
It depends on what jobs you are lookking for.
Those that I've looked out (I work in finance) seem to be on a par, if not slightly better. Whats more NET taxes are cheaper, income tax is more expensive but medicare is far less than NI.
Also, their system relating to pensions (super annuation) seems to be pretty good too.
I'm not sure about food. I would suspect it would be a bit more expensive because they do not have massive supermarkets like we do that completely dominate and drive down costs and ruin suppliers like ours do. For that, I don't actually mind spending a bit more.
Housing also seems to be substantially cheaper. I currently pay £850 in rent each month. Using the commonwealth bank home calculator and using todays exchange rate to get a monthly repayment of $1734 then I could borrow just short of $280k so with a deposit of say 15% I could probably buy a house for somewhere above $320k which looking at some of the areas that we have been looking at, I could get a 3 bed house, far better than the 1 bed flat that I'm in at the moment.
So I don't think the cost of living seems higher to be honest when you take into account housing costs which surely you must when considering cost of living.0

Where in Canada do you live????
I spent 17 years in Canada and I paid:
 -Council Tax (called Property Tax)
-Car tax (Annual license plate sticker - although it wasn't as expensive as it is in the UK)
-Water rates (much more than in the UK!)
No tele license I'll give you that. But there is no TV to watch unless you pay upwards of $40 per month for Cable or Satellite! There's nothing like Freeview - you're lucky to get one or two channels through an aerial.

and for all those know alls each province is very much like a seperate country with different lawsI found my eutopia tee hee I live in canada yeehaa!0

I think the point here is that you made it seem at first like your circumstances were common in Canada, when in fact they aren't at all.0
