I have lived and worked in 62 different countries and i can assure you .there is no place like home...the uk has its faults a plenty but the lack of corruption here is amazing compared to other countries.....always leave the back door open and coming back is a lot easier.good luck in what you decide but i guarranttee you will miss the greenish of the grass,:p:pIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0

geoffkey, yes...much as I like Spain, I do miss the green grass of England and even with the MP's expenses scandal, the corruption in Government, including local government, here in Spain is much worse.
And we have left the door open - the front door of our own home in the Midlands which we did not sell and in fact are going to be doing 50/50-ish in both countries in the near future.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I came to Canada in April of 2008 as a tourist and have never left and have now been a permanant resident landed immigrant for a month:D I have never been happier in my life !!
I shall never set foot in basket case UK again yipee!!
there are a squillion reasons why I love canada and most are nothing to do with money but as this is MSE here are just a few fiscal reasons
 no car tax
 no council tax
 no water rates
 no tele licence
wonderful huge homes with acres of land overlooking rivers ,the ocean and lakes for under £50,000
 no chavs
 zero crime
outstanding natural beauty and breathtaking wildlife
warmest people I have ever met
a totally different way of life with a give give give attitude rather than the opposite
eg my village is run entirely by volunteers eg the fire service snow clearance even the st lighting
and no it isnt cold all the time we had 3 days of over 100 degress last week
Canada is very choosy who it allows in which is great , the immigration process was very stressful but so worth it
my only regret is I did not do it years and years ago
good luck all you only get one life go for itI found my eutopia tee hee I live in canada yeehaa!0

I guess you must live in the only City in Canada without- Property Tax
- Personal Vehicle Tax
- Solid Waste removal fees
- Water Bills

P.S. You should be careful. Non payment or avoidance of Taxes will be treated much more harshly in Canada that is was in the U.K.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

            Grass is always greener!
I have a portable job which has taken me to Australia, NZ and SE Asia and most expats I met are running away from something. Usually they haven't been able to get on in Britain and believe that they might be more successful elsewhere.
One !!!!!!ed liver and sun damaged skin later they are propping up bars and blaming their misery on the UK while secretly being home sick.
Aus and NZ are great countries to live but they are very remote and the sense of isolation can be a big issue as well as the complete lack of culture.
As for Canada, who'd want to live somewhere with such extremes of climate? Also read it's pretty boring too. As for no chavs, ever seen the Trailer Park Boys? Chavs exist everywhere, perhaps with the exception of Monaco.
We are very lucky in the UK. Shame many Brits have to ensure years in ex-colonial outposts to realise this.0

we have our own water supply from our own well and our own heating supply form our own wood and no I dont live in a city:rotfl: and there is no vehicle tax ????? and what is solid waste removal fee's  we certainly dont have any?
however I should not really be promoting Canada its perfect as it is and the lack of negative folk is so refreshing we really dont want any living here:DI found my eutopia tee hee I live in canada yeehaa!0

Ah Ha...so you are 'promoting' your village, not Canada as a whole.
My ex lives in Toronto, and unfortunately has to contend with such things as Taxes, Water Bills and other 21st century problems.
P.S. Personal Vehicle Tax was introduced in Toronto last year I think, to much hullaballoo, and Solid Waste Removal fees are for your weekly trash collections (which no doubt are free in Utopia ) 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 ) 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

I did a job for an Australian a while ago, they are settled here etc, I quizzed about Aus economy etc. She said that generally wages were less than here and cost of living, food etc was a lot higher.
Not as rosey as it was, but then again where is?? I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

Where in Canada do you live????
I spent 17 years in Canada and I paid:
 -Council Tax (called Property Tax)
-Car tax (Annual license plate sticker - although it wasn't as expensive as it is in the UK)
-Water rates (much more than in the UK!)
No tele license I'll give you that. But there is no TV to watch unless you pay upwards of $40 per month for Cable or Satellite! There's nothing like Freeview - you're lucky to get one or two channels through an aerial.0
