Visa Electron - who accepts?

Options
Hello,

I have just opened a new current account with abbey (Instant Plus a/c) and this comes with a Visa Electron.

Is this type of card widely accepted? ie: supermarkets/petrol stations/online etc?

Any advice appreciated.

Most places do accept it. However, you cant use it for Tesco online shopping (it's fine to use in store). Debenhams do not accept it in store or online.

Also watch out when buying train tickets, particularly on board trains. They generally don't take them either.

Have look for the little stickers that are on tills or the entrance doors. They will give you an idea.

I think the majority of places do accept "visa electron" now except for a few that have been mentioned.
Barclays have now upgraded their basic acount and are offering a "visa debit card" which is accepted everywhere instead of the plain cash card they used to offer with a basic account.

Currently Marks and Spencer don't accept Electron online.

Most other retailers do accept Electron i.e Amazon, Play.com, Next, Sainsbury's online shopping, etc..
