sign facing street not road

I have just received a parking fine for overstaying a time limit whilst parked on the road. However, the sign that states limitations was facing the street and not the road. Would this be a valid argument in appealing the ticket? Also, i didnt spot the ticket until I got home as it wasnt stuck to windowscreen but simply put in between the top of the bonnet & windowscreen!. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi youngfish, welcome to MSE

Do you have any photos of the sign? It would also help if you could scan and post your PCN - full details here:
