Great Last Minute Xmas Shopping Bargains Hunt

Options
I'll start this one off with a bargain of a gift mentioned before.

Here you buy a useful gift for someone in the developing world e.g. a fishing net or care for an orphaned child.  They get the prezzie and your friend gets a card telling them what’s been done in their name.

For more details the website is Greatgifts.org

It's a fantastic site! I've used it to get 8 last minute pressies, and the personalised cards are just [glow=green,2,300]brilliant[/glow]!
I like it so much I posted it on all the notice boards at work...
The site crashed for a while earlier today, hope that's cause they're struggling to cope with the demand ;D

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Mortgage-free Glee!
My sister got married last month and as she is between countries, jobs and houses and living with her (now) husband in his 1 bed flat they really didn't want any of the usual gifts.

They used the wedding gift service of either the above company or very similar (goodgifts.org?) and my present to them was a push bike for a midwife!! :o:o:o

This allowed the midwife to travel much further to outlying villages somewhere in Africa to reach people she wouldn't otherwise have been able to get to. This cost me the princely sum of £34.95 including P&P and the card to my sister.

    How brill is that? :-*
    Nice to save.
  • Great idea, great cause
  • A similar organisation is "Send a Cow"

    http://www.sendacow.org.uk/default.asp?

Watch for the chicken laying an egg & the farmyard sound effects on the homepage (makes me feel right at home. Moooo)

The cards can be downloaded to print off, I think, so really last minute hunters can have a chance!

I got my Canadian Aunt a pig, as she collects china ones, but this was a lot easier to post & doesn't need dusting!!

On a serious note, the organisation is very hot on training the recipients of the animals gifted, and also the first female offspring have to be given to yet another poor family, creating a great cascade effect.

(I don't work for them, honest!)

    Have a Happy Christmas,

    Lucky Cow ;D
The cow is of the bovine ilk,
One end is moo, the other milk.
  • I bought a fantastic gift box (for myself!) at Woolworths. It contained:-
    Footspa
    Facial Sauna
    Manicure set
    Body Massager with interchangeable heads
    Eyelash curler
    Facial hair trimmmer
    Body lotions, eyemask and candle

all reduced from £50 (or possibly £60 in some stores) to £30. I've already opened it and had a fantastic night in front of the TV with a bottle of wine having a good pampering session!!! (Sad I know!)

    Well worth it!

    Merry Christmas everyone!!!
