Wireless router failure

I have a Netgear 54Mbps wireless router, whose ethernet cable goes into the computer from which I am sending this email. I can connect with the internet without any problem whatsoever.
A laptop and second PC share a Netgear WG111 adapter, which allows a wireless connection with the router.
Until recently, all three computers could happily access email and the Internet. Without warning, BOTH the two computers using the adapter ceased to be able to connect to the router, although the ethernet connected PC continues to function 100%.
The adapter tries to find the router, but fails to form a connection. Using the troubleshooter, the computer also tries to repair the link when prompted to do so, but cannot make a connection. The blue light on the adapter is working, so I assume the adapter is OK. So, why on earth have both computers lost the ability to connect with the router for no apparent reason.
I tried reloading the adapter software on the laptop, but this had no effect.
Logically, the adapter must be broken, but doesn't appear to be. What is wrong?

same happens with ours ...we unplug the router and adapter and plug them back in again and it works ok ........until the next time! Strange ...
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

did you change the router to not emit its channel id...... if you have and the pc/laptop using wireless haven't been coded with that info, then they wont find the router....
but then again nor will anyone else.....smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I have just had a thought!
There were some very recently MS updates loaded onto my machines. This tends to be done automatically, since I am not really au fait with a lot of the stuff they want to upgrade, but it seems sensible to accept their advice. Do you think this might have caused the problem?0 -

No but you have not comented on previous posters remarks, so everyone is in the dark as to what exactly you have done!
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Have you tried turning the router off and back on again?0

Matto,
Amateur mistake. You were right. Simply turning it off and back on again solved the problem. It is really Sherlock Holmes' advice: when you have discarded everything it cannot be, what you are left with, however unlikely it may seem, has to be the answer! And it was!!!!!!!
