If anyone plans to use it at a Tesco self-scan till, could they let me know whether it comes up "price check" (like the Lurpak one), or whether it currently just doesn't scan, thanks.0

Yep, the McCains voucher didn't scan for me either in Sainsbury's. The guy had to enter it in manually.
I reckon it's because the barcode is a bit dark
Guess once the supermarkets get used to it not scanning properly, they might accept them if you're doing a big shop and not actually buying the chips.

That's what I am hoping Dormouse that I can disguise them in my weekly shop, I bought 20 copies in the end and distributed them to people that wanted them in work, minus the vouchers.
I initially used vouchers to buy the papers so they didn't cost me anything, only the diesel there and back !! I will be raiding the paper racks for the Telegraph vouchers tomorrow in work - my voucher stocks have been so low I was thinking of looking on ebay ...........
I am the only Voucher Queen in my village LOL

There is a difference between the Lurpak voucher and the McCain one, as some 'free product' vouchers require the cashier to type in the price manually (as different supermarkets have different prices for the same product), whereas others scan at a set price (usually RRP, I guessF&L wrote:If anyone plans to use it at a Tesco self-scan till, could they let me know whether it comes up "price check" (like the Lurpak one), or whether it currently just doesn't scan, thanks.
). The Lurpak was the former, McCain's the latter.
The way you check which one it is, is through the barcode. Look at the last four digits. The very last one is irrelevant, but the three before it tell you what the voucher will scan at, in pence. If the three digits are 000, then it won't scan and the price will have to be entered manually. The McCain barcode ends in 1691, meaning that it should scan at £1.69 (which is great, as most supermarkets charge a lot less for a bag of chips - I got mine for £1.45, so that was 24p off my other shopping
).
So, in short
, the answer to your question is, the voucher just doesn't scan because it's rubbish quality.
(Sorry, long post, but just thought I'd bring this up again in case someone doesn't know the barcode rule

So did I.surfsister wrote:mine scanned fine at sainsburys but I did buy the product!
It's probably down to how sensitive their scanner is, or something...

Thank you Dormouse, I never knew that about bar codes! My Tesco self-scan will only accept "price check" coupons if you've bought the product, hence the reason i've bought so much Lurpak and Bonios! Looks like I'll have to buy the chips rather than use it against something else if it's not going to scan because of the quality.0
