Wireless Web cams

I ve recently bought the belkin wireless g router for use with my desktop and laptop which is working great.

iam looking at setting up a webcam to watch over the car at night, being looking at this wireless webcam on ebay item no 9700459984 am i right in thinking i can have this connected via the network and it will automatically store the "feed" until its uploaded to the pc/laptop or would the pc/laptop have to be hooked up at same time so that the image is being recorded onto the harddrive.

any advice is welcome

  • The camera itself has no storage for images so it needs some disk space somewhere on your network to store images on. So your PC will have to be on the network all the time. I have some experience setting similar IP cameras up, and be aware that stored images can take huge amounts of disk space up quickly!

Disk space usage depends how long you need to keep the captured images (last 24hrs/48hrs, etc).

You can upload the images via FTP to some web space if you have it, but again you would need some considerable storage to save over long periods. The advantage comes from storing the images on the internet and not on your PC at home where the machine can be nicked, along with the evidence!
