New Car Prices & Buying advice please - Peugeot 308cc

Hi there

I'm thinking of buying a new Peugeot 308cc. There is currently a 4 year 0% finance from peugeot on offer(25% deposit), that I will be taking advantage of. They also offer a £200 5yr/50,000 mile servicing deal (parts & labour incl) which I thought was good? Any advice?

Other than that, I'm not too sure what other discounts to expect? Especially - what discount should I look for on the list/OTR price? One Peugeot branch are saying that the 0% is like a discount, but I don't buy it. I think you should get at least £1000 of the list price? Am I talking rubbish!?

They have offered £4,200 for my trade in - Jaguar x-type 2L diesel, 70k miles.

I have read the very useful guides/forums on car buying & gap insurance etc. so am okay with this stuff.

Any advice/comments, even if they are 'to the point' would be VERY much appreciated! Thank you.:cheesy:

You should be able to get around £2000 off the 308 CC - use broadspeed.com as a guide. They will put you in touch with a UK supplying dealer, so these arent imports (your dealer will try to poo poo internet brokers for that reason)

    http://www.broadspeed.com/cgi-bin/bsc/config.pl?request=getvers&ref=gg&rs=&make=Peugeot&model=308+CC

Your dealer may well be using that discount to bolster up the price of your trade in. If that is the case, then you're really just getting £2200 for your car.

What year is the jag? i;d have thought a sensible miles diesel one would sell ok privately?

Hi - thanks for replying - broadspeed does give around £2000 off. However after calling them, advised they can't get the 0% deal - may need to check this though, as if they are dealing direct with the dealer shouldn't be a problem should it?

Yes, could get a good bit more privately for jag (its 04/2004) £5,700 according to Glass's, (didn't think there would be this much of an increase I have to say) but not sure I want the hassle! (I know, not very practicle!)

ps - should I have to pay the £400 extra for paint? I've always thought this was a lot of nonsense I have to say!

    Best wishes

Update re broadspeed - 0% only available via dealers, so best bet is prob to haggle the price down!?

If 0% is only available through dealers, can you use a broker such as DealDrivers or Drivethedeal to get a discount and the 0%? Not sure if all the brokers will experience the same issues as broadspeed, but it may be worth a try.

I'd try to sell your car privately first too, given that the difference is quite large between the 2. Even if you only achieved a sale price of say £5k, it is still money in your pocket that would pay for the servicing cost and give you some left over.

Thanks Jonathan I'll look into dealdivers etc. I've been offered 5k by a private dealer, for trade in, not too bad, think I could push it up as well, esp using the private sale price as leverage! Thanks, again. oops! dealdrivers, that is!
  • Thanks for the recommendation  but we aren't offering Peugeot as outright purchase right now (only contract hire)...I think the reason there's a problem for this driver is that low rate finance is often financed between the mfrs and dealers through their existing margins, so the dealer cannot use his margin for a discount and still have enough left over to offer 0% finance. There's no such thing as free money- someone is paying for it somwhere!
There are quite a few examples right now where a low rate finance deal has to be forfeited if a customer wants another incentive like a big front-end discount too.
Not everyone needs or wants finance, so deals are advertised at the lowest poss' price assuming you want no other 'frills'...but a low rate apr is a form of discount...so something else needs to 'give' unfortunately.
The sum needing to be done is how attractive paying full list price is and borrowing against it, to going with a decent'ish apr and getting 2-3k off the car instead so you're borrowing less...altho' at a higher apr.

Drivethedeal are offering 2197 discount on the car AND have the 0% AND £200 servicing deal available as they deal with the peugeot dealers direct (no money goes to them). Sounds good to me!! :T

Seems odd broadspeed cant do that as they just put you in touch with the main dealer.

Sounds like a great deal though!
