3 Modem offer on Ebay

All

Firstly - this is my first post after many years of viewing, so wish me luck!

Looking for a decent wireless modem for occasional use with anonymity (ie don't want to be tied down to any contract or suddenly find that I am over any limit); and have come accross this offer on ebay which I can't post the link for (perhaps someone replying can do it for me)

If you look at the ebay uk homepage you'll see the offer, under 'daily deals'

basically 15quid for the E156G 3 modem. Seems to come with 30gb free.

Does this look like a good offer? Any ideas of the pitfalls?

eBay is a dynamic site and it isn't showing me that deal. I did a search and can't see it either.

I seriously doubt that you are going to get a 3G USB dongle together with 30GB of bandwidth for £15. I think you have misunderstood the offer somehow.

Anyway PAYG 3G mobile broadband... Usually you buy a chunk of bandwidth which must be used in 30 days. Typical price being ~ £10 for 1GB.

Prepaid 12 month deals including the dongle usually cost ~ £99 and include 12GB.

cant see anywhere that says it has 30gb I think it is just the modem and sim but it is a good price for a 3 modem.

it is on the main page under daily deals as the op said. came up straight away for me.
  • All, to correct myself - they wrote 30g (as in weight) which I read as 30gig. So the total allowance of usage is not completely clear.

If you're having issues finding it: search on:

OK I've found it now (my ebay uk home page has no daily deals link and I found that through google??).

It is a good price for the modem. There will be no bundled bandwidth - you'll have to buy topups seperately.

The biggest snag is that it may be useless to you if you are too far from a 3 mast and returning something bought on eBay could be a bit problematic.

The 3 website will show their claimed coverage but my experience was that although it showed good coverage for me in the 2 areas I checked it wouldn't work in either and I had to send mine back. I now have a Vodafone contract one which costs £15 a month but as I got £90 Quidco back that works out at £7.50 a month. When my year is up I'll be looking to negotiate a big reduction otherwise I'll just start a new contract through Quidco again.

I bought a vodafone one off play.com in january for £39.99 and it came with £15 credit - 30hrs?

I've used it a fair bit and its still got £10 left on it.

I cant see how a contract one is worth the price unless you're doing a LOT of surfing or lots of downloads.

Are these not "free" (pay postage) as per Martin's tips email?

Solved my missing daily deals ....

This netbook is only used on 3G so I use Adblock Plus to remove adverts. It was removing the "Daily Deals". I imagine that is because leads to a subdomain of eBay and ABP treated it like a banner.

I've disabled ABPO on eBay now in case it block any other potentially useful links.

I use mine for a significant time every day.

Interesting that the Vodafone one doesn't expire in 30 days - I thought all the PAYG ones worked that way.

You can get some offers on these occasionally, A few months ago I managed to get a dongle from 3 with a monthly 5GB allowance (only use it for travelling or a backup) and it costs me £7.34 a month. The dongle was free too!
