Plumbing a New Shower in - Cumbria

Options
What sort of price should I be expecting to pay for a new shower to be put in ?

I'm waiting for the plumber to get back to me with a quote for the following -

- New shower (must be mixer shower, thermostatic and not one of those that need sunk into the wall, going to be connected to/via the bath taps under the bath)
- 3 square metre, 150 x 150 white tiles (to replace current tiles where shower is going to go and to tile from 3quarter way up wall to ceiling)
- Labour costs (approx £150 was quoted before the tiling mentioned)

Depending on what price they quote for the shower, I've spotted this one - http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-3320.aspx - so I should be able to get Tesco points on it and kinda save a bit that way.

Tiles - found these, pack of 44 for just £4.98 - http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9373136&fh_view_size=10&fh_start_index=10&fh_eds=?&fh_sort_order=1&fh_sort_by=_price_rrp_min&fh_location=//catal!!!1/en_GB/categories<{9372013}/categories<{9372031}/categories<{9372105}/specificationsProductType=ceramic_tiles/_colour_derive>{white}&fh_refview=lister&ts=1242896015769&isSearch=false

I've had the quote back and they are saying £355 for the triton bar mixer shower, tiles and labour costs

    Is this too high ?

I would say that's probably about right.

Good afternoon: A good, competitively priced mixer is the Aqualisa Midas 100...available from merchants down here eg. HPS for £99 + vat (including a fitting bracket). Ditch the Triton.;)

    Second Plumber

Came round and took a look and advised that it would be far easier to get a Bath Shower Mixer on the taps and do it that way to save taking tiles off the wall and digging channels in them etc.

Had a look and found this one for £38 (thanks for the link to screwfix ormus) - http://www.screwfix.com/prods/23589/Bathrooms-Showers/Bathroom-Taps/Contract-Taps/Swirl-Contract-Cross-head-Range-Bath-Shower-Mixer

    Third Plumber

Said the same as the first one, it would involve retiling and going up the wall etc. For him to do the work and re-tile around the whole top of the walls would be about £200 if I got the shower and the tiles.

He did give some good advice in that the tiles round the top of the bath need re-doing as its just tiles with some corner stuff stuck on them so the gaps between each tile and this stuff is a titchy hole where water can seep through and cause problems under the bath and leak.

The 2nd plumber has the right idea but is a idiot for advising that shower as it is non thermostatic

If you do not wish to remove tiles etc i can recommend this shower

http://www.aquabrand.com/prodlist/162-hansgrohe-single-lever-bath-shower-mixers You require Pillar unions for mounting onto bath rim 180mm hole centres

    And one of these

http://www.aquabrand.com/prodlist/200-hansgrohe-ecostat-thermostatic-bath-and-shower-mixer-taps-exposed Ecostats thermostatic bath and shower mixer tap exposed for wall mounting

    Nope,Im a self employed kitchen/bathroom fitter,Plumber to trade

I would buy mine from PTS but i cant show you details from them,1st google search came up with them!

Do you wish for a constant temperature when showering or do you prefer third degree burns followed by a cold shower!

    Glad i coiuld help:confused:
