Nurses tax reclaim

in Cutting tax
Found out a while ago that, as a nurse, my wife can claim tax relief on things like laundery, membership of professional body etc. So sent the form off to reclaim the tax for the last 6 years.
Didnt hear anything, so sent another. Still nothing. A few months ago sent a third, this time recorded delivery, still nothing!!!
So annoyed, looks like the only way to get a response is to drop it in personally to the office !!!!

How long since she sent the first claim? Most tax offices have 8-10 weeks post on hand. You could try ringng the helpline to see if the claim is recorded on her record.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Here it is:-

As you can see, it could be a nice few quid back for the last 6 years. You can even claim for laudering your uniform (my wife works in Theatre Recovery and wears scrubs so she cant claim).
If you're in the South Wales region - good luck !!!
Yeah. Always thought it was a bit of a con that you had to pay to register so you could do your job....
Perhaps I should do personal referrals to the tax office with these forms. Nurses have to visit me at home wearing their uniforms (when my wifes out !!!) LOL. Only joking !!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Paul, all nurses can claim the fixed rate expense allowance. It is not only for washing uniforms, but also for tights and shoes, watches, etc. Here is the link to the table:

So it seems here...
The form I got has a specific section where you had to tick if you washed your uniform separately. Perhaps this is in addition to this basic allowance?0 -
No, its not in addition. I think the form you used was for other trades where the washing of a uniform is the only expense.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

The RCN publish a form that you can fill in and send off to the tax office. It has all the basics a nurse can claim for.0

fengirl's information is correct. Note the link she gives to the HMRC website, which of course overrides any information from other organisations.Gone ... or have I?0
