companion bus pass

Options
Hello All,
Just thought i,d mention there is an addition to the normal bus pass called companion where a pass is issued with a blue cross on allowing a companion to travel with person free.My mum has a tendecy to keep falling over so i take her on every journey .To apply i contacted the PASSENGER TRANSPORT SECTION of my local council then i had to get a form from social services called CONCESSIONARY TRAVEL PASS APPLICATION- ASSESSMENT OF DISABLED ELIGIBILITY.
The doctor had to fill this in sent it all back and hey presto new card with companion entitlement. Just to note it says in little book my mum got with card the companion will only be allowed to travel at same time and same journey as the pass holder.Don,t be put off by me waffling on it was pretty straight forward and since last august free bus travel for me and mum 4 to 5 time a week we use it .
good luck

Thanks savemoney, I forgot about each situation is different in my mums case it was necessary to fill in that assment form but as you say your award letter sufficed. Older people who are getting unsteady or disorientated would be able to apply even if they didnt have a award of dla or aa as long as doctot on side completing their assessment with there difficulties.:T

I think it depends where you live if they do a companion pass, also it might be a different symbol on the card. On my brother's pass its just a C in the top right corner. His first bus pass years ago actually had written/printed on the front BLIND PLUS COMPANION - that was when he paid half fare.

C+ passes are only valid in the LA/ district that they are issued and in my area you must need a carer to accompany you on your journey but they accepted that me being a wheel chair user qualified me for one without any problems. no form or anything.

They should be nationwide and valid nationwide, in my view. We are as disabled whereever you catch the bus and if you need help in one place you need it in all places.

my oh is blind in one eye and no peripheral vision in the other. All i had to do was provide a letter outlining this and we got a pass with a C on it within a couple of days. (North Yorkshire Area)
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • NOT avaliable in greater manchester.
