I am too late to find cheap flights for October half term (21/10/2006 - 27/10/2006)? I have trawled many sites and can only find fares for about £880 for 4 people. Will cheaper flights come on line nearer the time does anyone know?

I think the savings are worth that 1 or 2 days off school when they really dont do that much on the last couple of days anyway or there might even be a teacher training dayIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
Sorry I didn't say we travel from Manchester. Both my hubbie and I are teachers so it is not an option to take extra days off school. Thanks for your help anyway.0

Only a general rule of thumb, but this is my experience. The budget airlines, easyjet, ryanair, jet2.com etc get more expensive the closer to depature you book. This is because of the loading software they use to calculate prices, i.e. the fuller the flight (flights get fuller closer to departure) the higher the price. Even one extra seat being sold can affect prices by £10, £20 or more. The schedule operators BA, Iberia etc seem to get cheaper when there are unsold seats, but generally you book these through consolidators etc.
To reitterate regarding budget and scheduled late bookings I booked this week to fly to Athens on Sunday and it was cheapest with BA direct through their website, than easyjet.
However, if you have to fly on certain dates, then it is often worth paying the premium to know you will fly, rather than leaving it last minute.

Have you thought about not going for the full week I am going for 2 short breaks to Mallorca this year and no problems in getting cheap accomodation for short durations.Your main problem price wise is the sat 28th oct. If you go out on the sunday 21st say with Jet2 try other airlines to get a cheaper return price on the friday the 27th and you should be able to travel for less than £150.I am flying with airberlin.com in september and they often have good prices even in august etc. They go from manchester but you stop at stansted for 35 minutes and then take off again.A little bit longer but worth it for the prices.Just checked out a new route from manchester and you can get back on the thurs 26th for £191 for the four of you with air-scotland.com. Don't forget that you don't need to buy your flights with the same airline as I often mix and match to get the best prices on the dates I want.If you need anywhere to stay try solmelia.com.ps.. don't forget to run your booking through quidco or topcashback to get more money back.0
