Company keeps charging my credit card!

in Credit cards
Please help! I ordered something from a Co way back last year by credit card over the internet. I have had an unauthorised transaction appear in January and now again in May. Its for the same amount I orignally paid when I ordered the item. When I contacted the credit card Co in January, they weren't really bothered and told me I'd have to contact the Co direct and sort it out with them. I did and they refunded me. But now its happened again. Surely this is theft as I have not authorised these transactions and why am I doing all the running around. I am tempted to just close the account to prevent it happening again. Will this stop it or will they still be able to charge things to this account? Is there anything else I can do - ie threaten the Co with something/report them to someone? (I asked them to remove my credit card details from their records, which they obviously havent done) Is there anything my credit card Co can do like block transactions from this particularCo?

Thanks
Thanks

Unfortunately not as you have granted the company a continuous payment authority. Only the company that applies for it can stop it. The other way around it might be to "lose" your card and report it. Though I am not 1005 that even that would stop the payments.Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!

Not if it's a Continious Payment Authority, you'll still be liable for charges. Will [closing card/account] stop it or will they still be able to charge things to this account?
Assuming a CPA is in place 'contacting them' means explicitly telling them to cancel the CPA, not just refund anything they've charged to the card. Demand written confirmation that the CPA has been canceled. Do not assume you won't be charged any more unless you receive this written confirmation. When I contacted the credit card Co in January, they weren't really bothered and told me I'd have to contact the Co direct and sort it out with them.
Again, assuming it's a CPA, you have authorised these transactions.Surely this is theft as I have not authorised these transactionsConjugating the verb 'to be":

What was the company name???
I personally would go to my bank and threatnen to cancel my card hopefully then they will be more responsive to you and help you to sort out the problem with the company that is still charging you.0 -

If it's Continious Payment Authority then they can STILL charge your card even if it's 'cancelled'.I'm going for my QuidCo £million!

Won't work if it's a CPA as I pointed out in post #3. All canceling a card will do is prevent any new charges on the card - CPA charges don't count as new - they're an old authority, and the bank are still obliged to honour the request, resulting in the holder of the card being obliged to pay the amount due, whether or not the card and/or account are closed.moneywebsearch wrote: »I personally would go to my bank and threatnen to cancel my card hopefully then they will be more responsive to you and help you to sort out the problem with the company that is still charging you.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

The Co is National Homestudy. Why would they put it on a CPA thought if I havent authorised to do this? I made a one off purchase 12 months ago and authorised a one off purchase only? I've contacted the Credit card Co and they said the same and cancelling my card wont make a difference, I'll still get charged. I have contacted the Co and they said it is on renewal and thats why I'm getting charged. They have now rectified this and allegedly removed my credit card details from their records (although they said this last time). As suggested, I'm going to follow it up with a letter requesting they send me written authority that the CPA has been cancelled and that my details have been removed.0

You need to confirm it is in fact a CPA (though with the CC company telling you to go to them, it probably is.)Why would they put it on a CPA thought if I havent authorised to do this?
It'll have been in the small print, thus you did authorise it by giving them the 16 digit number on your CC.
My suggestion was to verbally demand a written confirmation of the cancellation from the firm, not that you write one. They have now rectified this and allegedly removed my credit card details from their records (although they said this last time). As suggested, I'm going to follow it up with a letter requesting they send me written authority that the CPA has been cancelled and that my details have been removed.
Though it can't hurt. Keep a copy, and possibly send it recorded delivery.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
