To be honest if I was in your situation I would wear what I normally wear to interviews which is a trouser suit with a plain top underneath. My trouser suits are all smart, but have a modern cut and I think wearing a top rather than a blouse means it doesn't look too fussy. Plus if it really was that informal I could take the suit jacket off.

I am always wary when recruiters state that things are informal as I have noticed that the still seem to be more impressed with the smart people who turn up. I think as long as you wear something smart that doesn't restrict your movement you will be fine.

Wallis are pretty good of work suits and they do do good discounts in the sales.

Don't risk it. Dress smart (smart, smart!). You could always pretty it up with some cute jewellery or by wearing your hair down. Don't even consider wearing jeans!! This is an interview, it doesn't matter what they tell you. Go smart. Wear a suit or a skirt & blouse.

You want them to take you seriously don't you?

I totally agree, but I personally would advise against a skirt just incase any of these ice-breaking activities are quite physical. I know a cousin of mine went to a recruitment event and there were some activities which would have been hard to do in a skirt!

Of course I want them to take me seriously, yes. Like I said my normal style is very much 'overly smart' some would say, and I didn't want to turn up miss 'prim and proper' when there may have been people kicking about in jeans!

Think I will go for slim fit black trousers with a blouse and maybe a little blazer and scarf? Then it's not *too* smart, but presentable?

That sounds like a nice outfit. There is definitely nothing wrong with looking 'overally smart' IMO. We interview a lot of people in their early twenties where I work and we are astonished at how many turn up looking like tramps or hookers!

Sounds good - I once worked where everyone was 'casual' but I still preferred to be 'smart' and after a while I noticed that everyone else started to dress smarter too. Good luck.

Most of my interviews are "smart casual" so I just wear a suit without a blouse.

I always wear skirt suits as I have a hell of a time getting trousers and dresses that fit properly. (Small waist large hips)

For the amount of time I wear a suit for it's really not worth the extra hassle and extra money in finding a trouser suit that fits properly.

If you do wear a skirt or a dress and you are wearing tights just make sure you have spare pairs* in your handbag.

    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I wouldn't go to any sort of intervew/assessment without tights if you're wearing a skirt/dress.
