Hi everyone,

I'm about to graduate from university (hopefully!) and I'm attending a black-tie graduation ball to celebrate. Can anyone give me any tips on where to find reasonably priced attire? It's not top hat and tails, but it will be black dinner jacket and dickie bow!

Cheers

    Hiya,

M&S do a really nice suit in their "everyday value" line- it's the trousers and dinner jacket and then you choose a shirt, tie, cumerbund- all of which they have a good price range of. You know it's good quality and if you make it your own by choosing your own tie etc. it looks really good!

Congrats on graduation and have a lovely evening of celebration!

Oh yeah, I've got not problem at all with hiring. Perhaps I should have made that explicit in the post. I'll have a look at the two suggestions so far - Thanks.

Charity shops. You'll be surprised by what you could find. Although check for holes, marks, etc as the stuff in general is pretty old. But normally the quality is fine.

Check for hire prices from greenwoods/moss bros./maybe even burtons. As if your only going to use it once it might more cost effective to hire. I remember Slaters Menswear being resonable for things like bow ties and dress shirts, not sure about suits though as I had mine by then.

Greenwoods hire a dinner suit with shirt for ~£45.00
My husband has just bought a dinner jacket and trousers for £49.50 from M&S, bow-tie £5, not sure how much dress shirts are.
If you think ur ever going to need evening dress again, it is probably worth buying - the M&S one looked stunning on my husband :)

Sounds like an odd place for it, but George have some nice ones which are pretty reasonable. Also Primark but not sure what the quality would be though.

My DS got his from M & S when he started Uni as he needed it for Formal dinners in the OTC. Added bonus - it goes in the washing machine no porblem !!!!!! and it was really reasonably priced

I recently bought my son a lovely dinner suit from Suits You. It was £99 including a bow tie and a dinner shirt. One thing that was good was being able to pick the jacket and trousers independently. My son usually has a larger waist size trouser than usually goes with his jacket size. M and S also have the jackets and trousers able to be selected in whatever size you wish.

My son's previous normal suit was an M and S washable one and it has washed and washed for two years and has lasted really well.
