City Break Paris

I have just got back from a fab four day break in Paris and thought I would share my experience, as I took a lot of advice from this site and tripadvisor. We took the Eurostar from Waterloo to Gard Nord. When we arrived at Gard Nord we trundled out to the taxi rank. The queues were horrendous, so we took the Metro! It was so easy, cheap and highly recommended. Don't bother with the taxi. We bought a three day pass (we were even able to use it on the funicular at the Sacre Coeur!)
After much research and due to recommendations I decided to stay in the Latin Quarter - first good decision of the trip! We stayed at the Hotel Familia http://www.hotel-paris-familia.com/. A fabulous hotel and worth much more than the two star rating and is very reasonably priced. The website really does do the hotel justice. Rooms were lovely, beds made every day, fresh towels every day, fridge in room and a hairdryer - we even had balcony! 5 min walk from the Metro and 10 min walk from Notre Dame and 10 min walk from the Latin Quarter's very long street of lovely Parisian Bistros (we had a lovely fondue in Assiette Aux Fromages). The staff could not have been more helpful. A great location to get to everywhere in Paris and a hotel we will use every time we go back.
I took my girlfriend to Paris to propose to her - the hotel was a lovely start to the weekend, typically Parisian. I did propose at night on the Pont d'art bridge (as recommended) with the lit up Eiffel Tower in view, coincidentally just after I had proposed, the Eiffel Tower suddenly had a light display like it was lit up by flashing stars (this happens on the hour I think). The whole moment could not have been better
I then whisked her off to the Moulin Rouge for the late night show.
Yes Paris is a little expensive but a lovely romantic and fun place to visit!
