I've flown to Ireland several times (Shannon) and hired out a car without any problems whatever. They give it to you full of fuel and expect it back in the same manner.
I've used different companies depending on what the deal is and all this years cars in excellent condition. I try these and pick the cheapest (Make sure you compare the insurance cover offered by each)

on one occasion I flew on Ryanair and used their recommended car hire people... that was ok as well

I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

  • Just came back 2 weeks ago from Knock. My cousin had a Group A car (Corsa/Yaris type) car booked throught the Ryanair website and had prepaid it. I turned up at the desk along side him not having booked any car and asked the lady behind the desk, Kath I think her name was, for a price the same as my cousin.

My cousin had been upgraded to a Mazda 3 diesel. When I asked if I could have the same deal deal as my cousin she said that she didn't have another Mazda but would do me a BMW 1 series for the same price. A bit of charm and being nice certainly worked in my favour. However I think that it all depends on what cars are available at the time, so I think a deegree of luck came into it.

All in all if I remember coreectly with all the insurances and no excess it worked out at around the £78 for the 3 days.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure!

You're not elderly are you? The only thing I know about car hire in Ireland is that the maximum age to rent can be lower than in other places.
