I assume you insured via mobility/RSA

    If so details Here
You should consider the breakdown cover, it can cost thousands to get a car back to the UK if it is badly damaged:mad:

The web link above has a phone contact at the bottom

    Travelling Abroad

If you wish to take your vehicle abroad, you do not need to contact RSA Motability if you are visiting any EU country, Croatia, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. You do not require a Green Card for these countries but you should take your Certificate of Motor Insurance with you as proof of cover.
You will however need to contact RSA Motability in the following circumstances.
    • If your total travel to an EU country, or those additional countries detailed above, including this journey, will exceed 90 days in any 12 month period.
Cover for travel over 90 days in any one policy year will be charged at £29 per month or part month.
    • If you are travelling to any of the countries listed below.
Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzigova, Bulgaria, Israel, Macedonia, Moldova, Morocco, Romania, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Yugoslav Republic of Serbia and Montenegro.
Cover for these countries will be charged at £29 per week or part week.
These charges can be paid to RSA Motability, by credit card, cheque or postal order. Foreign cover will not commence until you have paid.
Motability Operations advise that you obtain European breakdown cover before you take your car abroad. RAC European Motoring Assistance is available as an optional addition to Motability Assist customers at specially discounted rates.
To complete a request for Green Card cover you can either complete the on-line form by clicking on the email link below, or telephone our Customer Services Department. Full details can be obtained by clicking on the telephone link below.

Call (or write to) the insurers: Royal & Sun Alliance - 0500 373737.

The Motability contract hire T&Cs (Section 5.1) seems to indicate that RSA provide minimum 3rd party insurance only.

Also, the RSA cover booklet says (Part 3 section 1D:"..provide the minimum cover required by law to allow the vehicle to be used in any of the following countries: Any EU country........."

"Minimum cover" probobly means 3rd party only. (ie not covering the car itself, just liability to anyone you hit etc)

RSA will confirm this for you if you ask.

However, the Motability contract hire T&Cs (Section 4.1) seem to indicate that Motability will 'make good loss or damage to the Vehicle'.

Thus if you write-off the car in a crash that's your fault, Royal Sun will pay the 3rd party costs and Motability will repair/replace your car.

At least that is my understanding. Speak to both Motability and Royal Sun, hget it confirmed, and ask for it in writing or for the specific sections of the contract that apply to be sent to you.

Take your Policy Schedule with you.
