How do I get Power point?

DD (17) and DD (12) have just informed me that they need Powerpoint for their school and sixth form work!
This may be a silly question but how do we get this? Is it a disc we buy or a programme we download?
Do not want to just walk into a large "** World" like a lamb to the slaughter!
Any advice for a technophobe ( and
Parent) would be appreciated.

download open office for free
http://www.openoffice.org/product/index.html
it has a powerpoint bit
http://www.openoffice.org/product/impress.html
it can also work in Excel and Word format
OpenOffice.org Version 1 was the first product to deliver the benefits of open-source software to mass-market users, delivering essential everyday software tools completely free of charge. Translated into over 30 languages, available on all major computing platforms (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X X11, GNU/Linux, Solaris), OpenOffice.org Version 1 is now in use by tens of millions of delighted users worldwide
With Version 2, it gets even better:
the first office suite to use the new OASIS OpenDocument format, the future-proof international standard for office software- easier to install, with a whole new look and feel, matched to the type of computer in use
- more intuitive, more easy to use than ever, with a host of new usability features
- introducing a major new component, Base: an easy-to-use database manager with a fully integrated database
- more compatible with other software packages – now understands even obscure and rarely used features in major competitors

If they only need to view powerpoint files, you can download the microsoft powerpoint viewer HERE from microsoft.
That'll also check that what's created by open office will also work at school
(Not that I imagine it won't!) - = I also recognise the Robins and beep for them = -0 -

OpenOffice rocks! Anyone considering buying Microsoft Office from the likes of PEE CEE World would be set back in the region of £90 for a cheap Student edition, more if the salesman told them they needed the small business edition!
OpenOffice does everything just as well if not better and is fairly well compatible with the word, excel and powerpoint documents created using Micro$oft Office, and best of all its FREE!0 -

no need to check
Actually it is worth checking as sometimes there can be problems with the formatting (visual formatting as opposed to file format). Same kind of issues one gets between Open Office and Word or Firefox and Internet Explorer.0 -

This is also true between older and newer versions on Powerpoint itself, ie the 95/2000/XP versions."...IT'S FRUITY!"0
