Help! free music editor needed

guys,


can anyone of you very nice people recommend a free music editor, i need to fade in a track chop a bit out and then fade out.

Any ideas, have tried a google but got no idea what to look for!

I use GoldWave Digital Audio Editor, excellent program, not free though, but you can download a trial version, I use it to convert, take out audio hiss etc, does most things.

Have you tried mp3 direct cut?

I know its a german site but the instructions are in english, I use it to edit mp3s and also its good at pause detection, so if you have a large file you can split it easy.
