I have instructions on how to convert my tapes to DVD, but it seems really complicated. My VCR is nowhere near my PC, so I would need a very long lead, and I also dont have a DVD burner, just a CD burner. Of course, the simple option would be to take it to an expert who would charge me through the teeth, but as a regular moneysaver, this seems wrong. My DVD player does play CD's & Jpegs. Any suggestions???

You would need to connect a cable from your video recorder to you graphics card and record the tapes on special software.
You would then just convert the video to files that will play on your DVD player, video out and audio out to your soundcard.
You can buy special cables if yours is old, but just move the pc to the video.
You can also convert them to play on cd burners as well, buy a dvd burner as they are cheap enough.
someone else will know a lot more than me as i havent done this type of thing before.I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
If it is a straight forward Archive (i.e. whatever is on the VHS goes straight to DVD) then the simplest way is to get ahold of (borrow) a DVD recorder (the VHS replacement for under you TV)
If you are looking to edit the video footage, then you will need to get it onto your PC.
You will need some type of caputure device, be that a Graphics card or i believe you can get USB capture devices.
In both cases you would need a DVD burner and video editing software (E.G. Nerovision Express - Part of the Nero burning suite.....
If its just the one VHS you want archived, then I'd be happy to do it, if you cover the postage.
Don't forget to THANK ME !!

I've got the same problem, and am just considering whether to buy one of the budget DVD recorders that are around at the moment. Asda are doing one at the moment, Cyberhome by name, which seems to attract quite good reviews on these forums. It's no use to keep waiting for the newest format, there always seems to be another just around the corner, but if you've only spent about £70 it doesn't hurt so much if it becomes obsolescent. As far as I know, this is the easiest option, just connect video to DVD and copy over. Most of the possible complications seem to be covered in the various forums. So, all we need now is a spare £70!!0

Thanks everyone, & to you leg@cy, but I'm afraid I have quite a few tapes. Still considering my options, but because the tapes are precious( kids 1st spots days etc ) think I might rob the bank & get them done professionallly. There are some things it is just not worth trying to save money on arn't there?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0
