Balance Transfer - Argos Card

Can anyone tell me why I cant transfer the balance from my Argos Card to my credit card as a balance transfer? The credit card company are happy to accept any other "store" card but wont transfer the Argos one. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

I had this problem and, unfortunately, i was never able to resolve it.

The first difficulty is that the Argos card has 3 (I think its 3) extra numbers at the start of the credit card which form part of your account number, but are not part of the credit card number (does that make sense?) and therefore when you give the whole number to the credit card company they don't recognise it as a valid number.

I then tried giving just the 16 digit number without the 3 at the start, but this was STILL not recognised by the other company. In the end, i tried three different companies and none of them recognised the argos number. I think Argos do it deliberatly to stop you, therefore you incur more interest - what is it now?29.9%?

What I did was I luckily had some room on one card so I took out £2000 in cash on one card at 19.9% cash rate. I then used that cash to pay the argos card, then I transferred the cash balance off that card to another card at a lower APR. I WAS lucky in that i had enough room on my cards to do that, otherwise I would still be stuck with it. I really hope you can resolve it, and if you can take my advice and shred your argos card. Its a horrible horrible card!

Thanks for that, I have shredded the card (and took great pleasure in doing so!) but as you said the interest is 29.9 % and crippling me !!!:eek:

I have a argos card and the interest is 27.9% and you only pay this after the interest free period.

I asked the credit card company for some credit card cheques and i paid mine with a cheque

cheques are just as bad as cash advances, argos are as above good only for the intrest free period, after get rid

Argos card services are a bunch c_nts!

I've been having problems with these cretins for the last 2 weeks, all i can say is to anyone thinking of getting an Argos card..... DON'T
The call centre staff are misleading, arrogant, unhelpful and damn right useless at they job.

Argos (and Next I think) do not accept BACS transfers as payments - they therefore cannot accept a Balance Transfer as they are sent by BACS. It does seem a little unfair to me - some credit cards do send out balance transfer cheques though which would be at a promotional rate.
