Retirement in Ireland

Hi. I'm a new user of this site. My husband and I retired to Southern Ireland about five years ago. We have modernised an old cottage which has taken most of what little money we had to start with! We have about £10,000 in a UK bank account which, of course, is now paying hardly any interest. We don't expect to need to use this in the foreseeable future (but you never know) but don't know where or how to invest it to get a bit better return. All the recommended places need a UK address which we don't have. Does anyone have any suggestions. It must be safe.

You might get more response if you posted this on the Savings and Investment board.
Nowhere is paying much interest unless you tie it up for longer - an investment bond or some such. My DH has just transferred his cash ISA with First Direct at 0.5% into a stocks-and-shares ISA. But that, of course, means you accept the risk that 'your investment may go down as well as up'. For Irish residents an ISA is not possible, but there may be other forms of investment, as long as you accept the risk.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
