How long does it take from draft contract to completion

OK - I'm a FTB and this is my first post on MSE, so please forgive me if I don't sound like I know what I am talking about!

Here is where we are with our purchase so far:

Searches complete and all fine
Valuation complete and all OK
Mortage Offer received and returned by us
Draft contracts in the post from the solicitors - should be with us by tomorrow.
Have agreed a provisional move date of 1 April with the vendors.

My questions are, how long will it take between the signing of the draft contracts and moving in? What stages happen in between these two things, and is 1 April a realistic move in date, provided the vendors stick to the provisional date?

If 1 April is not looking realistic, then I need to start to look into a contingency in terms of where to live/store our belongings, as we have to move out of our rented accomodation then.

only solicitors can tell you if its realistic or not and as they are the ones that set completion date and if they have said the 1st april and everyone in chain is happy with that then they are confident that they can tie it all up.
You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on
  • Well the solicitors say 1 April should be OK, but then again they said we would receive the contract in thepost on Saturday morning, which then changed to this morning, and now we are waiting for it to come tomorrow morning.

This process really is giving me grey hairs!
