It certainly seems that many on this site have 'defected' to Sainsburys recently.

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Had a look at Chicken Tonight in Mr T's today and nearly fell over - it is now £2.01. Maybe it's going to be BOGOF next week? Certainly not buying it at that price! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Why are you shocked? They are a business run by shareholders, whose only interest is return on investment. If you are as price sensitive as you say, go elsewhere, or start/ join a food co-op.
I think much of the problem is that supermarkets now control such a large share of the grocery market they know they can get away with doing things that twenty years ago would have caused people tyo avoid them in droves. Once you've got rid of the competition you can do pretty much what you like.
With regards to 'Chicken tonight' and the like, most can be found for about a third of the price in Pundstretcher, Jack Fulton or Home Bargains. I have a load of chinese peanut sauce sachets in the cupboard, 25p from HB rather than the £1.79 supermarket price.0 -
i wish i lived back up north and could go to home bargains again

tesco are sooooo sneaky puttin their prices up. we r practically forced to shop there as the nearest other supermarket is a 20min drive
no doubt tesco will hav a special price reduction week and put the prices back down to what they were before or a little bit higher.
i cant wait to move!0 -
Yeah, I see the problem for some people in areas that are quite rural, or 'Tesco towns'. Where my parents live the only place to buy anything other than meat and bread are Tesco, Lidl and an extremely high end delicatessen type place that i've not heard of most of the products. Even the Spar shops and garages etc have pretty much turned into off licenses that sell a few breads, soft drinks, newspapers and pot noodles.
We are VERY lucky in my city to have a large asian community and the shopping choice it brings with it.0
