What is best to get rid of TEAR STAINS on a Puppy??

Hi all!
I have a 5 month old puppy as I have mentioned on another thread previously he is a Lhasa Apso.
We have had him since he was 10 weeks old and he has always had sort of orange/ red sticky stains around his eyes the vet seems to think that it is just tear stains so no harm but with his face being all white it REALLY stands out!!
I have been using Johnsons "diamond eyes" which might be helping slightly although I am beginning to wonder if warm water on cotton wool would do the same?
Can anyone recommend any products that do actually work to get rid of the orange stains on his fur?
Also...........if anyone knows about either of these breeds I have been told that they get an adult "double coat" fur does anyone know when this happens & do they shed all their puppy hair or what as I am clueless about it!!!

best thing is used cooled tea bags! Use the tea bag, leave it to cool but not dry out. Wipe it once over each eye, then throw away.
It will take about 12 weeks of doing it everyday before you see a result, but better than diamond eye stuff!0 -
I was told using only bottled water in the dogs water bowl would help. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I might add that this is also great for any mild eye infections or gunky eyes that you don't think need the attention of the vet.0 -

Thanks..... but that seems a bit mad to me.....won't the dye from the teabag turn the rest of his white fur orange?? Although if it did at least the tear stains would blend in with it!!lol! :rotfl:

I can't remember the name, but I'm sure a client told me of a product to put in drinking water that alters the chemical make up of tears so they don't stain! Her dog looked fine and was in good health.
Maybe do a search online and get some reviews?Give yourself a Chistmas bonus £14 a week!
Total so far £280 -
Personally I am not sure anything will work. regular wiping with plain old water (pre-boiled or otherwise) is probably as good as anything0

i have a bichon and i changed his food and the staining went.
now he has no marks and his hair round his eyes is white again.
i found that bakers complete made his eyes really bad (loads of colouring in food), he has been on purina beta for over a year and its been great .0 -
Lhasa's have slightly pop eyes which seems to make them prone to watering. My lad gets his face washed every night with plain water before he has his tea. I do this to keep his face clean, not for beauty reasons..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

i also have a shihtzu and the same goes (see my post above) and she has poppy out eyes.0

Cheers everyone!
I think I will just stop buying diamond eyes when this one runs out and stick with water which will prob do the same job as it?
I don't think it will be because of his food? He is on Purina Pro Plan Puppy which I was recommended it's supposed to be good stuff and does say on it no colourants?
Im not really bothered about it for vanity reasons he is never gonna be "on show" I just think that it looks like he has got an eye infection and it makes him look a bit sickly if you know what I mean!
I have bought him a "crufts"grooming set with clippers& lots of brushes and other goodies that come with it this afternoon so gonna have a nose at that now - he better look out!! lol! :rotfl: :rotfl:
