I don't see that as splitting hairs; what's the point of telling someone to ask somebody something if that person doesn't exist? Your link to the correct email was very useful.

I don't know why people think this, most probably due to the adverts on TV! At my local primary school a teaching job came up and over 200 people applied for it! I think we are training far too many teachers than there are openings for!

That's certainly been true up to now but there are an awful lot of social workers in training. I think in the next few years it's going to be very dependent on geographical area.

Things i've done in the past when i was made redundant include selling insurance and double glazing. 'Cos they were commission only there was no trouble finding jobs, i hated them but they did as a stopgap, then i went on the taxis for years, again your self employed so can usually start easily.

Probably not what your OH would choose after having a good job but until something turns up will help keep the wolf from the door.

Without wishing to make a political point whilst I sympathise with the OP's husbands plight, you cannot put all the blame on the government.(perhaps some, like the failure on eastern european immigration controls which they got badly wrong) There is a world recession at the moment which would happen whichever government was in power. After all is our government responsible for the economic plight in Ireland, Japan,Spain (currently 16% unemployment) and USA. I hope that the OP's husband is able to find suitable employment like myself soon.
