Halifax have accidentally cancelled seven of my direct debits. They've also cocked up on a number of faster payments which resulted in two people being paid three times.
They have written to me today to apologise and have advised that they have credited my account with £50-00 as a 'goodwill gesture' but I'm not happy with this. I don't think that's quite playing ball, so I intend to take further action. If I happen to have a little fun in the meantime then more's the better.
Let's be frank, if as customers we step out of line, we're made to pay. If two direct debits for example are both returned unpaid in the same day we are charged twice.
I therefore plan to charge Halifax the same amount per item that they would charge me if I ever used my account inappropriately. Seven consecutive !!!!-ups at £35-00 each = £245-00.
All I'm doing is redressing the balance, right?

Are you going to receive charges from any of the companies for the cancelled direct debits? I think I would be trying to claim these back anyway.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Thankfully not Mazza, as I contacted them all immediately to explain the situation. I did waste most of the day however, sorting out account numbers, reference numbers and speaking on the phone to the companies I have arrangements with. The multiple faster payment issues just tipped the scales to be frank.0 -
I think you're missing something, you are using your bank, they are offering you a service. You can't charge your bank because they have compensated you and you have accepted it. I would say very clever idea but won't do much in princicple! Also I don't think your T's and C's would mention this.0

Unless you have a term in the contract that allows you to charge the bank for this then you run the risk of the bank challenging you under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulation 1999. By all means charge them for phone calls, petrol, time and effort sorting out the problem. Furthermore, make them write to the relevant companies explaining their error and also make them pay any charges that you have incurred from the provider of the Direct Debits but if you charge them £35 a time then you need to make sure it is already in the existing contract between you and the bank, otherwise, you can't charge them even 1p.0 -
