Family holiday insurance for pre-existing medical conditions

I would be grateful for some help with my holiday insurance:-
One of my children has chronic lung disease which has always proved expensive when buying holiday insurance. For the last 3 years I have had good service from Direct Travel Insurance (as recommended by some users here). Although I have paid an excess for the condition I have had no problems receiving cover. Last year I was told that this year would be cheaper because he has now been diagnosed for over 5 years.

I have just phoned to arrange cover and was told that he could not be insured.
I am frustrated that my loyalty has been "thrown back at me" and now need to look for other insurers.
Please help, as this is our recouping time from all the health problems.
(we only need European cover)

cd66 has your son got a "diagnosis" if so what? or is the actual diagnosis CLD?

I will look for who "may" cover you, and hopefully you may get help on if these IC's are any good or not.

I use allclear, haven’t had a claim though so cant fully vouch for them, at least you talk to a real person who can advise.

    Thanks for your help.:T

I had spotted AllClear insurance in another thread and at least got a quote.
For 2 weeks cover £267.09, of which about £170 is the extra premium for the lung condition. Last year I only paid an extra £70.

    I will try the others.

His condition is chronic lung disease or interstitial lung disease

When taking my elderly mother abroad who was suffering from bowel cancer I found the post office to be the best priced and very helpful when providing holiday insurance. However didn't have to claim so can't give you any direction on that side of things

    Thats a lot for Europe.

Try this company http://www.ehicplus.com/ They will be a lot cheaper as for Europe holidays they use the EHIC card to pay for a lot of the medical costs so its often much cheaper.

The policy cover is not the greatest and I cannot vouch for their claims service but they get a lot of publicity in the media for offering cover at a reasonable cost for people in your situation.

Please make sure you read the information so you understand how it works, it is imperitive that you all have valid EHIC cards and that you try where medically possible to use public hospitals so the EHIC card works.

P.S make sure when you get your EHIC card that you get it from the NHS site which is free and that you do not go through one of the sites that come out top on google who will charge you for the EHIC card

    Try the link now.

The cover is not the greatest, it does not have the bells and whistles that other policies have. However it is well worth considering as the saving for this poster could be massive so it is worth considering for them.

You do need to understand the policy though.

    Have now tried another couple.

Got a quote of £241.35 through Unique (via lung foundation website)
Tried ehicplus but they wouldn't cover the condition.

At least I can get cover and go away but will keep trawling for other companies. I thought it would be easier this year!!
