I know what you mean, there have been more than a few times when i have went into the main post office in town to post some packets and also some large letter items.

The cashier would automatically ask me to place them on the scales and charge for a packet, even when it is a large letter.

So now i say when the cashier asks me to pop it onto the scales, this one is a packet, or this one is a large letter, or if am unsure i ask if this could go as a large letter then they would pop it thro the size guide to check. Anything that goes as a large letter they would always check it.

Once i had just an a4 piece of paper in a usual size small envelope (the piece of paper was folded) so it would be of the smaller size hole. I had folded it but there was a bit of extra air/spring in it as you get when folding something. So the cashier put it in the small hole and didnt try to pop it thro as the extra air 'prevented it going through'. I said if you give it a gentle push as it was just the folds it would go through and she said she wasnt allowed to touch it to go through the slot and that gravity should be enough. I said its only air that is stopping it and if you give me it back i will press the folds down firmer as it was only a sheet of A4 folded in three places. She said she couldnt as it would just plump up again and would have to charge me for a large letter.

And it was the same woman who served me when i went to mail an item that was within the length and width and weight criteria of royal mail. She said when she measured it that it didnt qualify for the standard parcels service as she was taking the length to be the outline of the item (it was a curvy item). I said if i had it in a box the length would be from end to end at its widest point as is the width not the outline / circumference of the item. Anyway she didnt give in and i was in a rush so i sent it via the royal mail courier but all arrived in good time.

She hasnt been so bad recently otherwise i was gonna ask to speak to the manager to get her re-trained on sizing issues!

The perspex one for £4.99 seems a very good deal until you read this:

Standard delivery (2-5 working days) is £9.95 plus VAT.

I have been looking for a size guide to help with what to charge for posting. Several times lately, I have charged for small packet and the PO accepted it as large letter - not had anyone complain about excess postage costs yet fortunately.
I've found this size guide on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260355347712
    which looks good.

I'm wondering why a non-business seller has 10 of them (plus had another 15 according to feedback). Just the sort of thing you find in the back of a cupboard innit?
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

As you bought them to sell on you are trading so make sure you upgrade your ebay account to a business one now you have brought it to the attention of so many people. Probably best to double check you are registered with HMRC as well.

Also, you aren't actually the cheapest on ebay either, sorry.
